2 Bout: A Night of Busted Records and Broken Hearts!
Our
uber-fan Tracy
summed things up perfectly: "Totally, maniacally insane!"
The
first
period of the night pitted the spandex (Hustlers,
for you newbies) against the denim (Honky
Tonk Heartbreakers) and by the end of the night,
there were shreds of both fabrics all over the damn place. Both
teams were determined to make up for their losses of last month.
The fans went insane to see Dinah-Mite of the
Hustlers back in form after knee surgery during the off season,
but she wasn't enough to battle the determination of the Honky
Tonk Heartbreakers. It was pretty obvious the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers
were committed to regaining some of the pride they lost to the
Hotrod Honeys in the season opener -- and they did just that.
The Hustlers and Heartbreakers delivered punishing blows to each
other, and fights seemed to errupt within each jam. During one
punishing jam, Pussy Velour took out Loose
Tooth LuLu three times -- count 'em 1, 2, 3. The Hustlers
put up a valiant fight, but in the end, nothing could deter the
Honky Tonk Heartbreakers.
Final
Score: Honky Tonk Heartbreakers 53 - Hustlers 31.
Dare
we say that already -- just one game into the season -- the second
game of the evening, Hell
Marys vs. Hotrod
Honeys was the most anticipated game of 2006?! Last
month, the Hell Marys (after two years in last place) beat the
Hustlers. And the Hotrod Honeys put the brakes on the Heartbreakers
(two year undefeated season champions) in their season opener.
For weeks, the online Flat Track Derby message boards lit up with
speculation about this game. Would the Hell Marys be able to crush
the Hotrod Honeys like they did the Hustlers? The tension was
thick in the air when these two teams lined up for the first jam
of the night. It was the most action-packed, hard-hitting game
we've seen in quite a while! The score was close for the first
several jams, but all good things must come to an end, and the
Hell Marys simply couldn't compete with the ferocious hitting
of the Hotrod Honeys. To give the Hell Marys the credit they well
deserve, their defense was in over-drive as demonstrated by the
number of times 8 Track and Melicious
hit the floor. (A special nod of the helmet to Hissy Fit
for her hard hits and fashion flair that kept the Hotrod Honeys
on their toes and their backsides.) In the end not only would
the Hotrod Honeys be the only team in Texas Rollergirls 2006 season
with undefeated bragging rights, they broke two records: highest
number of points scored in a single game and largest point spread.
Final
Score: Hotrod Honeys 103 - Hell Marys 32 |
